Project EverGreen recently announced Fort Myers, Fla., as the organization’s fourth GreenCare for Communities location.

Project EverGreen recently announced Fort Myers, Fla., as the organization’s fourth GreenCare for Communities location.

The newest program location joins three other GreenCare for Communities locations already well underway and making positive green space improvements in their respective areas. Akron, Ohio, was the first program location, followed by Milwaukee, Wis., a year later and the I-40 Corridor in North Carolina between Raleigh and Greensboro/Winston-Salem last year.

Fort Myers was selected with the assistance of various state associations representing a cross-section of the service industry in Florida, including the Florida Pest Management Association, the Florida Nursery Growers and Landscape Association, the Florida Turfgrass Association, Florida Sod Producers and several independent landscape architects. Efforts are underway with these groups and others to promote the benefits of managed green spaces to consumers and visitors to the “Sunshine State.”

Project EverGreen has budgeted $50,000 to help support local programs promoting green space preservation and to communicate the positive benefits of well-maintained yards, parks, golf courses and other public green spaces to consumers, public officials, youth, teachers and more.

Visit www.projectevergreen.com or www.twitter.com/projectevrgreen for updates on the new GreenCare for Communities location.
