Volunteer FAQ

Volunteer Frequently Asked Questions

How do I get in touch with military families in my area that need help?

If there are military families in your area that have already contacted Project EverGreen directly and signed up to receive lawn and landscape maintenance services, Project EverGreen will send them a letter with any participating contractors in their area signed up to participate. The family will then contact one or more contractors directly to request service.

If there are not any military families already signed up in your area, and/or you would like to generate further family participation and local publicity, use the step-by-step plans in your MissionKit for publicizing the program, planning your advertising and inviting military families to join the program. It’s sure to ignite awareness of your company and foster participation.

What if a family contacts me that is too far away for me to service?

Project EverGreen, with input from advisory national landscape maintenance companies, will provide your company information to those families who sign up directly with Project EverGreen within a 30-mile radius of your business address.

If a family contacts you that you feel is too far away for you to provide service to, we’ve established the following guidelines for managing the situation:

- Let the family know that your business is participating, but that you are not able to provide service at their address.

- Ask the family to contact another contractor in the area if more were provided to them. If there are no other participating contractors in the area for the family to contact, ask that they contact Project EverGreen so that more contractors can be recruited in their area. Remind them that service is not guaranteed, but that every attempt will be made to recruit help.

How many families will I provide service for?

That is completely up to you. If you can provide service for one family – great! Five families – even better! Ten families – fantastic! Your volunteer efforts are in your hands. The more families you help, the better the story is for the media and the more publicity you will get for your involvement in GreenCare for Troops.
What if more families contact me than I can help?

Project EverGreen is not in a position to manage the number of military families that request service in your area and/or contact your business. However, we have established the following guidelines for you to help properly manage the program according to your company’s capacity or preference:

Let the family know that your business is participating, but that you are at capacity and cannot take on additional work at this time.

Ask the family to contact another contractor in the area if more were provided to them. If there are no other participating contractors in the area for the family to contact, ask that they contact Project EverGreen so that more contractors can be recruited in their area. Remind them that service is not guaranteed, but that every attempt will be made to recruit help.
