As part of its investment in the future of the green industry, national non-profit organization Project EverGreen welcomes college students pursuing an education in a related field to apply for its 2008 Because Green Matters scholarships. Project EverGreen awards two $2,500 scholarships every year to students working towards a major or minor in a field related to the green industry. This includes studies such as: horticulture, plant sciences, botany, agronomy, plant pathology, water management, etc. Applications must be postmarked by June 1, 2008.
“The green industry is an ever-expanding field with a wide variety of career possibilities,” says Den Gardner, executive director of Project EverGreen. “Our goal is not only to assist those students with the greatest need, but to inspire and support students who share our passion for this industry.”
Eligibility, as determined by a committee made up of members of the Project EverGreen Board of Directors, extends to two- and four-year program students attending institutions that offer turf, landscape and golf management curriculums.
“This will mark the third year for the scholarships,” Gardner said. “We have had great applicants in the past and are looking forward to another great round this year. These students are the future of our industry and we are happy to support their education.”
The winners of the 2007 scholarships were John Eastman, who is pursuing a degree in Horticulture at MSU with an emphasis on Landscape Design and building; and Dustin Potts, who plans to graduate from Purdue in May 2008 with majors in Horticulture and Landscape Architecture. The winners of the 2008 scholarships will be announced July 15, 2008.
