Project EverGreen, a national, non-profit service organization, is doubling efforts to assist deserving military families - and all Americans are invited to help. Project EverGreen recently launched the “Buck it Up for Military Families” program. This effort is designed to raise $1 each or more from potentially millions of consumers to expand Project EverGreen’s GreenCare for Troops program.
Created as a fundraising program to support the nationally recognized GreenCare for Troops, “Buck It Up” provides free lawn and landscape services to families whose major breadwinner is currently serving in active duty. A single dollar (or $5 or $10) donation creates scholarships for military family members seeking a career in the horticulture industry, increases the infrastructure to better handle the 8,000 military families and 2,200 volunteers participating in the program, as well as enhances the free lawn and landscape services currently provided.
“The ‘Buck it Up’ program is a chance for Project EverGreen to provide continued support for GreenCare for Troops and help many more deserving military families,” says Den Gardner, executive director of Project EverGreen.

Project EverGreen has also launched its second EverGreen Zone initiative in Milwaukee, Wis., after originating the concept in Akron, Ohio, last year. The purpose of the EverGreen Zones are to raise public awareness about the benefits of expanding, preserving and maintaining green spaces that positively impact climate change and create countless economic, environmental and lifestyle benefits.
EverGreen Zone volunteers will champion green spaces in both Milwaukee and Akron during community events throughout the summer handing out educational literature, seed packets and other items. In both cities, additional initiatives include partnering with public schools on Art of Green Spaces competitions, and assisting with renovation of blighted public green space areas.
